Profit margin

Etsy Profit Margin Calculator for POD Sellers

Etsy profit margin is the percentage of an order you keep after marketplace fees, payment processing, production cost, fulfillment shipping, ads, and other selling costs. For print-on-demand sellers, the margin can change quickly because product cost and shipping cost are paid after the sale.

Example: A $30 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping creates a $35 gross order.

If estimated Etsy fees are $3.78 and POD product plus shipping cost is $15.75, estimated profit is $15.48 and margin is about 44.2% of gross revenue.

Etsy POD margin formula

SellerMargin uses gross order revenue as the base. Gross revenue is the item price plus the shipping amount charged to the buyer.

Costs to include

What margin should a POD seller target?

A margin that looks comfortable without ads may be too thin once Offsite Ads, discounts, and fulfillment shipping are included. Test a normal sale, a free-shipping sale, and a 15% Offsite Ads sale before deciding on a listing price.

FAQ

What is a good Etsy profit margin for POD?

There is no single safe margin for every shop. POD sellers should test the full order after Etsy fees, payment processing, production cost, shipping cost, advertising, discounts, and Offsite Ads before deciding whether a margin is acceptable.

Does Etsy calculate fees before or after POD cost?

Etsy fees are based on the Etsy order amount and applicable fee rules, not on your Printify or Printful production cost. POD cost is subtracted separately after marketplace fees.
